Individual Therapy

Picture
I use a variety of methods tailored to the unique needs of each of my clients. My style is warm and non-judgmental and maintaining that safe and collaborative relationship is my goal throughout the therapy process.

I believe psychotherapy is more than "just talking". It is a highly collaborative, experiential process where we explore your inner experience: thoughts, feelings, behaviors. I believe that everyone has a sense of what they need to heal, and by creating the space to safely explore your inner experience with support and guidance, the shifts that need to happen will occur. We slow down to notice the emotional, cognitive and physical responses that you have to whatever the issues are that you're struggling with. Because of this innate healing tendency we all have, when we slow down and notice our inner experience, we are able to see/feel/sense things in ways that were unavailable to us before. This allows for release, relief, increased safety and a feeling of being more calm and alive and able to engage more effectively in your life. You decrease shame, self-doubt, fear and feel more self-compassion.

Psychotherapy can help with a variety of issues such as
  • feeling stuck from negative patterns or habits
  • anxiety/phobias/stress or depression
  • the impact of traumas such as abuse or neglect or bullying
  • major life changes or transitions
  • loss and bereavement
  • relationship concerns or difficulties
  • anger and other self-sabotaging behaviors

I work with older teens and adults of all ages.

Therapy Methods

Some of the primary methods I use are
  • AEDP: Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. AEDP focuses on building a strong, safe therapeutic alliance in which to explore and heal the impact of attachment trauma and shame and developmental injuries. www.aedpinstitute.com
  • EMDR: I use an attachment version of EMDR as well as Natural Processing, which integrates EMDR and somatic techniques. EMDR combines emotional, cognitive, and somatic techniques to help increase one's strengths and decrease the impact of trauma. www.emdria.org; www.parnellinstitute.com; www.naturalprocessing.
  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a powerful body-oriented approach to treating trauma and developmental and attachment injuries. Somatic psychotherapy can be the most direct means of healing trauma as the body holds the impact and only talking about what happened doesn't access and heal the trauma that is stored in the body. www.sensorimotorpsychotherapy.org.
