I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in couples and trauma recovery. I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2001 and serving clients in the Monterey Bay in full-time private practice since 2008. I received a MS in counseling from CSU Sacramento in 2002. I received my Bachelor's degrees in English and Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA in 1991.
I have worked with all ages in various settings. Before going back to graduate school, I worked in pubic schools teaching summer school and substitute teaching. I noticed how hungry so many students were for one-on-one contact. Seeing how positively they responded piqued my curiosity and led to my deciding to switch from education to counseling. My counseling program at CSU Sacramento had a strong multicultural focus. I deeply appreciated this foundation of the program as our culture has such a major impact on how we see the world and how we express ourselves not only emotionally but in every way.
Working in a locked facility with boys and girls who were incarcerated or in a dual-diagnosis treatment program was the most challenging work I've ever done, but it also required me to be even more aware of how systems as well as culture affect our development.
I strive to continuously learn and grow professionally and individually to bring to my clients cutting-edge skills combined with an authentic presence and genuine caring. All the things I have learned from this work have benefited me immensely in recovering from my own traumas, learning to manage life's ups and downs and remembering my strengths even when times are rough. I practice EFT in my own relationship and am so grateful for the gifts it brings. In my free time, I can often be found playing with my two dogs whose gifts of love, joy and unconditional acceptance are blessings each day.
